MAJOR | Major Junior League announces a major change to the game and the fighting within it
Fighting as been an essential part of the game since forever. Whether it was because intensity was at its peak or for retaliation on an opposing cheap shot, there was nothing a good old fight couldn't fix.
The latest report shows to be unanimous, the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League is set to become the first Tier 1 Junior League in Canada to prohibit fighting. Per an announcement that was made earlier this week, a rule would be in place by next season's beginning to completely ban it.
A former Quebec Major Junior player and now full-time NHLer with the Blue Jacket took his thoughts to the social medias when he heard about it:
«Not every player is gonna make it pro as a top 6 F / top 4 D and this hurts players that want to do whatever it takes to make it. Sad to see the Quebec Gouvernment force the league into this when the players have no say in the matter.»
It surely comes as the beginning of the end. We'll have to wait and see where this goes, but it certainly will be the end of an era. If the Quebec League takes that step, it won't be long until others start to follow.
