Massive update on Chris Tanev's possible return to Vancouver
The Canucks concluded a blockbuster with the Flames, acquiring the former 42 goalscoring centerman Elias Lindholm in return for mainly Andrei Kuzmenko.
There was the belief that Chris Tanev was involved at some point in the trade talks. It was even learned that once Tanev discovered a trade with Vancouver was in the works, he demanded to be on it.
Not confirmed but hearing from multiple sources that Tanev is trying to be included.
Today, we know how it played out, and for the time being, Tanev remains with the Flames. However, other sources have strongly suggested that despite completing a trade with the Flames, it wasn't out of the question for the Canucks to acquire Tanev in a separate trade.
I believe he was, but it was thought to be better as a separate deal. Heard the same, Rick.
Allvin and Rutherford had identified another need to be addressed on their blueline, and perhaps Tanev could be the answer. If the Canucks were to acquire the veteran, they'd have an attractive look on their blueline, that's for sure. Could they go for something like this:
Hughes - Tanev
Soucy - Hronek
Cole - Zadorov
Or perhaps
Hughes - Hronek
Soucy - Tanev
Zadorov - Cole
This one will be a nail-biter until the end since multiple teams have made it clear they'd be eager to acquire a warrior like Tanev.
