MAJOR | Top Draft Prospect Matvei Michkov confirms his intentions moving forward and NHL GMs have to be paying attention
The Canucks' faith will be decided once the lottery is drawn up, but at this point, we're still hoping for the team to get a high pick. Especially since this draft is loaded with high-end prospects.
All eyes have been turned to Connor Bedard, for obvious reasons, we've previously talked about Leo Carlsson. One prospect that's flown under the radar a bit because of his contract in the KHL is Matvei Michkov. He had been considered to be the second-best prospect of this class right behind Bedard and he delivered a very important message just a few months prior to the draft.
He recently gave an interview with the NHL and the words he gave should confirm his intentions moving forward:
''It is my dream to play in the NHL one day, but for now I will continue to work on my game and develop as a player at home. It was a challenging season for Sochi, but we finished strong and I'm looking forward to continuing to build on that next season...., I consider myself an offensive player, a playmaker with a good scoring touch''
Michkov surely is an intriguing piece of work, the Russian winger had 20 through 27 games while being loaned to HK Sochi of the KHL, and he was also very dominant in the VHL where he managed 14 points in 12 outings.
The scouting reports on him are nothing short of exciting, there's no doubt at this point that whatever team drafts him will be getting a gem:
''Michkov brings every offensive tool you could want to the table; a wicked wrister, elusiveness, and vision, EPRinkside.com 2021
becomes quicker around the net. He can make quick turns down low to then drive the net and display his quick hands in tight traffic (aug),''
If the Canucks were fortunate enough to have the opportunity to draft him, should they select him even though the Canucks are already loaded with wingers? He has the tools to develop into a scoring threat in the likes of Nikita Kucherov.
