REPORT | Latest report from the NHL shows Quinn Hughes is in the running for a very special award
The Canucks' season has been filled with many challenges, yet the team's recent success and acquisitions definitely show promise for the years to come.
One thing that really stood out, is the emergence of both Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes as the team's top players but also leaders. Pettersson is currently on pace for 100 points, while Hughes stands second on the team's stat sheet with 60 points in 59 games.
The League released his most recent ballot for the Norris Trophy, which is, by definition given to:
"Defense player who demonstrates throughout the season the greatest all-round ability in the position"
The team's 7th Overall Pick in 2018 has been nothing short of great since joining the Canucks. Not only has he been putting on a clinic this season offensively with 55 assists in 59 games, but he's also been a much better player in his own end in a struggling team and his +11 differential surely speaks for itself. The Canucks have a -33 differential, Hughes' +11 surely means something.
Per the ballots' result, Hughes stands 9th in the running with 1 vote, though it is very unlikely to see him get the trophy at the end of the year with players like Erik Karlsson that may set new marks for defensemen. It still means a lot to the player's development to have him considered. Hughes has not yet reached his prime years and the way he's grown as of late surely displays a better future for the Canucks.
