Aaron Portzline, a Columbus reporter, revealed moments ago that a deal for one of the biggest trade bait, Vladislav Gavrikov, is completed. Different insiders had revealed that the Jackets were seeking at least a 1st and a 3rd Rounder for their defenseman.
Though, there is still a hold up on this deal since it appears another deal needs to happen for this one to be formerly announced:
With that information, it is reasonable to assume that Gavrikov will land in a team with salary cap issues. Edmonton, Boston and Toronto were always believed to be the top teams for the defenseman, though Toronto recently acquired Ryan O'Reilly and traded the required assets to acquire Gavrikov.
Gavrikov trade, good news for the Canucks
Lots of names have been going around as potential trade targets as blueliners. Jakob Chychrun still is on the market, but he the Coyotes needs a major haul for their youngster. Gavrikov stands second on that list, with a hefty price tag.
Where it gets interesting for the Canucks though, is within the team's wanting a rental, experienced and poised defenseman. Joel Edmundston in Montreal falls in that category as well as Luke Schenn. Teams such as the Leafs, the Bruins or the Lightning, will be all-over those cheaper alternatives as soon as those top guns fall off the board.
The Canucks will than have the upper hand on the market and if Allvin is a good enough negotiator, he'll surely take advantage of that.
