The NHL officiating has been all over the place since the beginning of the season. Last night was no exception since videos of multiple offenses that have gone unpenalized are all over the internet, but in this case, it's a penalty that was called making headlines.

The Rangers were playing the Stars and in the third Mika Zibanejad danced his way toward the net, which led to a backhand shot that struck Jake Oettinger's mask. The Stars' netminder mask then loosened up making it unsafe for the play to continue. He tried telling the referee but the play kept going up until he literally took his mask off.

It's clear that the netminder's strap detached, at that point what is he supposed to do? The goaltender's safety is clearly at play here and the referee took no consideration of that as there was no hesitation to make the call. In a game involving two of the league's top teams, midway in the third, when you lead by one. This could've been game-altering, how should've this been handled?
