Patrik Allvin's work isn't done. While he may make key acquisitions in Jake Debrusk, Kiefer Sherwood, Danton Heinen, Daniel Sprong, Derek Forbort, and Vincent Desharnais, he'll need to use all the trade chips he can get, and three young forwards may suffer from this.
The additions of these four forwards also mean that the team's depth chart has expanded, and some of the team's youngsters pushing for a spot may turn into trade baits for the Canucks.
Linus Karlsson, 24, scored 60 points in 60 AHL games last year and was allowed to prove himself at the NHL level. Now that he's fallen down the depth chart, there's a strong possibility that Patrik Allvin will try to grant him an opportunity elsewhere.
Aatu Raty, the piece the Canucks acquired for their former captain Bo Horvat, has been steadily improving within the organization. They played well through the 2023-2024 campaign and had 52 points to show, but they fell short of a big league call-up. Now 21, he may be the Canucks most valuable tradeable piece. Given that they don't want to part ways with Jonathan Lekkerimaki and Tom Willander,
Vasily Podkolzin, the Canucks' first-round pick in 2019, needs to break out. After spending the majority of the 2023-2024 campaign with the Abbotsford Canucks, the expectations for him are huge heading into next season. If he doesn't show that he can take that next step and falls out of a roster spot, Allvin will try to give him other opportunities with another team.
In 2024, Allvin traded his first-round pick to acquire the star forward Elias Lindholm. Will he use a similar strategy at the upcoming deadline? On paper, the Canucks will have a steeper line-up than the one they started the season with in 2023-2024. Do you believe they'll be as dominant? Will they need to add via the trade market?
