LATEST | Former NHLer rips Flyers head coach John Tortorella
Former Vancouver Canucks head coach John Tortorella has been receiving a lot of heat recently for his decision to scratch Philadelphia Flyers captain Sean Couturier on Tuesday night against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Tortorella refused to answer questions from reporters following the game on his decision to scratch his captain and on Wednesday, one of his former players, Brandon Dubinsky, took to social media to rip his former coach.
"Torts..your tactics are getting old..instead of scratching and embarrassing your capt and one of your best players how about try and tell him I'm giving you 20 mins tmrw night no matter what with PP & PK and go play free have fun and fucking get it done? @NHLFlyers #freecouturier" Dubinsky said in a post on X.
Dubinsky, 37, spent eight of his 13 seasons in the National Hockey League with John Tortorella as his head coach - four with the New York Rangers and four with the Columbus Blue Jackets. With spending nearly a decade with someone as your coach, you get to know them pretty well and their tactics, so it's not too surprising to see Dubinsky call out his former coach.
Tortorella's Philadelphia Flyers will be back in action on Thursday night when they face the Carolina Hurricanes. It'll be interesting to see if Tortorella decides to put Sean Couturier back in the lineup or if he keeps him press box for another game.
