Panthers-Bruins season opener may reportedly be postponed by NHL
The Florida Panthers vs Boston Bruins season opener tomorrow night may reportedly be postponed by National Hockey League.
While the NHL season may have began in Europe with the Global Series back on Friday, over here in North America, things will get underway on Tuesday afternoon with the Seattle Kraken hosting the St. Louis Blues at 1:30 pm PT/4:30 pm ET.
However, it appears there's a chance that one of tomorrow's games may not go ahead as planned due to life-threatening weather on the way.
Jimmy Murphy of The Sick Podcast is reporting that a source told him the NHL will make a decision whether or not to postpone tomorrow's Florida Panthers-Boston Bruins game at some point on Monday. Murphy added that the Boston Bruins have already traveled to Florida and will be practicing today.
"Per an NHL source, a decision on whether or not the Florida Panthers will play their season opener against the #NHLBruins tomorrow night or postpone due to Hurricane Milton should be announced today.
Note: Bruins flew down yesterday and are scheduled to practice there today." Murphy said in a social media post.
The reason for a potential postponement is Hurricane Milton, which is currently a Category 4 storm in the Gulf of Mexico and will make landfall in Florida in the coming days.
Last night, the Panthers were forced to make the difficult decision to cancel their 2024 Stanley Cup ring ceremony out of an abundance of caution due to weather conditions.
"As this event would take resources from first responders and service providers, we have made the tough decision to cancel our Champions Ring Ceremony out of an abundance of caution for the safety of all involved. We will instead distribute our championship rings privately," said President and CEO Matt Caldwell. "Along with state and local authorities, we are closely monitoring the situation. As of now, Opening Night vs. Boston is scheduled to proceed as intended and we will continue preparing our arena and surrounding areas to safely welcome guests for Opening Night."
We'll have to wait and see which direction the National Hockey League decides to go regarding tomorrow's game, but the safety of everyone - fans, players, staff, officials, etc. should be the top priority, always.
