Team Canada knows who the next man up is after facing a huge blow in their opening game of the 4 Nations Faceoff, losing Shea Theodore in an OT win.
With Shea Theodore unfortunately breaking his wrist in Canada's opening game against Team Sweden, Team Canada has been forced to make contingency plans in case they run into even further injury concerns.
The tournament's rules make it less simple than just naming a replacement right away, but according to insider Chris Johnston, Dallas Stars defenceman Thomas Harley is on standby.
While Hockey Canada declined to confirm the identity of its standby player, league sources said that 23-year-old defenseman Thomas Harley of the Dallas Stars was scheduled to travel to the Boston area on Friday. Like Theodore, he's a left shot with some power-play acumen - Johnston
Johnston says the rules of this new tournament are "fluid", and with the NHL not wanting to force teams into a 13 forwards and 5 defencemen alignment - the NHL is allowing teams to have a reserve player, but he can't actually participate in team activities until injuries make it necessary.
They have to play with the six they have left until they drop below that. Can't add anyone to the team or have him participate in any team activities until that happens - Bill Daly
Harley, a 23 year old with 29 points in 53 games, is reportedly set to travel to Boston on Friday, where the next leg of the tournament will move.
