Twenty-one years old netminder tragically passes during hockey game
The Dekhockey community in Quebec is mourning the sudden and tragic loss of 21-year-old goaltender Zachary Bourassa, who collapsed and passed away during a game.
The heartbreaking news was shared on social media yesterday, and this morning, Marco Normandin from HABSolumentFan provided further details about the incident. Zachary was playing in the finals of a Dekhockey tournament in Trois-Rivières, Quebec, when the unimaginable occurred.
"According to our information, early in the game, the young goalie felt unwell and called for help before collapsing into the arms of one of the officials. According to information gathered from his family by Radio-Canada journalist Kassandra Lebel, he suffered cardiac arrest."
Known for his love of the game and his vibrant personality, Zachary was a well-liked and dedicated goalie. During the match, he suddenly collapsed on the rink, leaving everyone present in shock and disbelief. Immediate resuscitation efforts were made by a nurse and a respiratory therapist who were at the scene, performing chest compressions in an attempt to save his life. Despite their heroic and relentless efforts, they were unable to revive Zachary.
The news has devastated the local Dekhockey community and Zachary's friends, family, and teammates. Described as a passionate athlete with a kind heart, Zachary had shown no signs of health issues earlier in the day, making his passing even more difficult to comprehend.
This tragic loss serves as a reminder of how fragile life can be. Our deepest condolences go out to Zachary's family, loved ones, and all who knew him during this painful time. His untimely death has left an irreplaceable void, and his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those touched by his bright spirit and love for the game.
