Vancouver's schedule for 2026 FIFA World Cup has been released
Vancouver's portion of the 2026 FIFA World Cup schedule has been released.
We're less than two years away from the biggest global sporting event, the FIFA World Cup, which is set to be co-hosted by Canada for the first time in the tournament's history.
FIFA awarded Canada 13 games in the tournament, while Mexico also has 13 matches and the United States, who has the most venues being used, will host 78 matches.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will also be the first with the new 48-team format, which sees the number of total games increase from 64 to 104 and features a new knockout stage - the Round of 32. The preliminary round will see 12 groups of four teams, with the top two advancing to the knockout stages, along with the eight-best third-place teams from the group stage.
As mentioned, Canada will host 13 games during the tournament and there will only be two cities in the country that will stage games - Toronto (6) and Vancouver (7), which will be played at BMO Field and BC Place, respectively.
On Monday, Irfaan Gaffar shared an image from the official social media account for Vancouver 2026 and it featured which games they'll host, along with dates. The only thing that's to be determined is who will be playing in Vancouver, as World Cup qualification won't end until March 2026. The draw for the tournament will likely be in the fall, after the final matches of the first round of European qualification, before play-off games are played in March.
The biggest news, as of now, for BC Place's World Cup schedule is that they'll host two of Canada's games, while BMO Field in Toronto will have the other. BC Place will also host two knockout stage games - 1 Round of 32 match and 1 Round of 16 match.
