Two days before the season's debut, Patrik Allvin took advantage of the Leafs' rigid salary cap and acquired a player who was much needed in Vancouver and has been a true difference maker with the team.

GREAT ACQUISITION AT A LOW-COST

The Canucks landed Sam Lafferty for the low cost of a fifth-round pick after the Leafs had acquired him for a much steeper price about six months ago. The big, physical and gritty right-handed shot centerman played an essential part in the team's two wins against the Oilers.

He collected his first point in the 8-1 blowout, but the new number 18 collected his first goal at a crucial end during Saturday's 4-3 win. Here's the goal:
