Nazem Kadri reveals the one thing that would make him waive his no-trade clause
The Calgary Flames have been doing a lot of restructuring since Craig Conroy took over as the team's GM, and according to various sources around the NHL, it isn't about to stop.
NHL Insider David Pagnotta has reported that Calgary Flames forward Nazem Kadri may waive his no-trade clause for the right opportunity. Kadri, a prominent player in the NHL for 15 years, earned recognition with a Stanley Cup win as part of the Colorado Avalanche before making his mark with the Flames. At 33, Kadri had an outstanding season, achieving 75 points in 82 games, the second-best regular season of his career.
"Nazem Kadri had an incredible season for the Calgary Flames. The second best of his career putting up 75 points in 82 games.
Will he be able to replicate that next season?"
Despite his successful season, Kadri has become a focal point in trade discussions. Although he has several years left on his contract with Calgary, he has indicated a willingness to waive his no-trade clause if the right move comes along. While this news might excite fans of his former team, the Toronto Maple Leafs, Pagnotta suggests that Kadri is more likely eyeing a return to the Colorado Avalanche.
Report: Kadri "willing to waive" no-move for the RIGHT move...
"Nazem Kadri is out there, the Flames are willing to explore that possibility. He'll be at the tournament, so please don't ask him, and he's got a full no-trade as well, so my understanding with respect to him is that he's willing to waive it for the right situation. I think he would welcome a return to Colorado. I don't think that's in the cards, but we'll see."
Though there is no certainty that Kadri will be traded, Pagnotta's insights suggest that his career with the Flames might not continue until the end of his current contract. Whether the Avalanche can accommodate Kadri's contract remains an open question. Kadri remains under contract for five seasons with a $7M cap hit.
