The Edmonton Oilers are currently without a General Manager and are reportedly about to make a controversial hire.

After years of Ken Holland's tenure, which some argue hindered the Oilers' progress, his contract expired following their loss in the Stanley Cup Finals. This left the team searching for a permanent GM. Jeff Jackson has been handling decisions over the summer but has clarified that he does not want the position full-time. Now, the Oilers are linked to Stan Bowman, a figure who comes with his own set of controversies.

All signs seem to be pointing to Stan Bowman joining the Edmonton Oilers in some capacity as the team continues their GM search.

Hearing he could join as a senior advisor to the GM, but Jeff Jackson seemed adamant that he had not spoken to Bowman at all during the hiring process.

Stan Bowman was at the center of the Kyle Beach incident during his tenure as General Manager of the Chicago Blackhawks, leading to the NHL banning him from the league. With the ban lifted, he can return to a GM role.

Due to Bowman's history, this potential move is controversial and likely unpopular among Edmonton fans. However, with the league's approval of his return, it wouldn't be surprising to see him become the next GM as the Oilers aim to make their final push towards winning the Stanley Cup.
