LATEST | Former first-round pick hitting the waiver wire: Highlights the Bruins draft disaster
The NHL's waiver wire saw little action on Wednesday, with only one player being placed on waivers.
Intriguingly, that player happens to be former Bruins first-round pick Jakub Zboril. The Blues' Jakub Vrana also cleared waivers on Wednesday.
Zboril, 26, was drafted 13th overall in 2015 and has failed to live up to lofty expectations. He was the first of three consecutive Bruins picks (the latter two being Jake DeBrusk and Zach Senyshyn). To add insult to injury, the following three picks were Mathew Barzal, Kyle Connor, and Thomas Chabot all of whom have blossomed into stars for their respective teams.
According to reporter Frank Seravalli, this move reportedly facilitated Zboril's wishes to seek an opportunity elsewhere. He enters the waiver wire and will hope another squad is interested in his services.
