Earlier this week, Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman decided to place former sixth overall pick Filip Zadina on waivers to see if any team would pick him up for free.

The next day, Zadina went unclaimed and remained with the Red Wings organization, but it appears that his time in Detroit is over.

According to Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli, the Detroit Red Wings will be placing Zadina on unconditional waivers on Thursday for the purpose of terminating his contract. Zadina will become an unrestricted free agent on Friday afternoon.

"Hearing #LGRW will place Filip Zadina on unconditional waivers at 12 noon ET today for purposes of mutual contract termination.

Zadina is foregoing the $4.56 million remaining on his deal, seeking a fresh start elsewhere. Huge courage to bet on himself." Seravalli said.

The 23-year-old has appeared in 190 career NHL games for Detroit, but certainly hasn't panned out as many had expected. The most points the Pardubice native has put up in a single season so far was 24 back in 2021-22.

Should the Canucks take a look at signing Zadina when he becomes an unrestricted free agent on Friday? Let us know your thoughts in the poll below!
