FIGHT | Canadiens' enforcer absolutely pummels a rookie after a nasty hit
The Montreal Canadiens are taking on the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight. About 5 minutes into the game, Blue Jackets forward Dmitry Voronkov hammers Arbur Xhekaj. Xhekaj takes exception to the hit as the two square off in a short fight.
With Xhekaj responding to the hit, the play ended up offsetting penalties. Xhekaj was penalized for roughing and fighting, while Voronkov was penalized for boarding and fighting.
Voronkov is playing in his first NHL game. The 6'5 Russian product was a 2019 4th-round pick. Last season, he played in the KHL for the Ak Bars Kazann, recording 31 points in 54 games.
The Canadiens have to be happy to see Xhekaj defend himself, but this is another penalty to add to the Habs league-leading start to the season. The team must work through their undisciplined play.
