MAJOR | Leafs' first round pick's career could be ending at 22 years old
The Maple Leafs selected a blue chip prospect out of Russia in 2020 when they picked the scrappy winger Rodion Amirov.
A player with great potential it caused a shock in the Hockey world when it was announced that he'd been diagnosed with a cancer.
The latest reports now suggests that his career may be ending at 22 years of age:
'Amirov extended his loan with Salavat Yulaev Ufa in May, but there's been no legitimate indication that he'll return to play.
The loan is so Amirov can remain in Russia, have access to Ufa's staff, and be around the team. With what's public, it's unlikely he plays again''
This comes as heartbreaking news for the youngster whose dream of not only playing in the NHL but hockey at any professional levels may end. Amirov hasn't played in a single game in 2022-2023 and isn't expected to play in 2023-2024.
