BREAKING | Canucks sign defenceman Akito Hirose to multi-year contract
The Vancouver Canucks announced on Sunday afternoon that they've agreed to terms on a two-year contract with defenceman Akito Hirose. His contract is a two-way deal in year one and one-way in year two.
Hirose, 24, joined the Canucks in the Spring following his third season with the University of Minnesota - Mankato, signing a one-year entry-level contract. He became a restricted free agent once the season ended and was issued a qualifying offer on Friday afternoon.
"Akito was a welcome addition to our group at the end of last season and we're excited to have him back with the organization for two more years," said Allvin. "He had an strong finish to his college career and then held his own playing seven NHL games against some top-end talent. We look forward to having our staff work closely with him beginning this week at Development Camp."
The Calgary native appeared in seven games for the Canucks, putting up three assists, four penalty minutes and was a minus-one.
