LATEST | A statement regarding Quinn Hughes and Filip Hronek
Plenty of the success the Vancouver Canucks have had so far this season can be attributed to the defensive pairing of captain Quinn Hughes and Filip Hronek.
Both Hughes and Hronek ended up on the score sheet during Vancouver's win over the Calgary Flames on Saturday night, with the captain picking up a goal, while the Czech blueliner added two assists.
After the game, Sportsnet Stats on X made a post regarding Quinn Hughes and Filip Hronek, highlighting that they lead the entire National Hockey League in points by defensive duos with 59, 12 more than the second-place pairing of Cale Makar and Devon Toews of the Colorado Avalanche.
"Most points by defenceman duos this season
Hughes / Hronek (#Canucks) 59
Makar / Toews (Avalanche) 47
Hedman / Sergachev (Lightning) 41"
The play of Hughes and Hronek this season has been fantastic to watch and it'll be interesting to see if the duo will be able to continue this production as the season goes on.
From Filip Hronek's perspective, his play is certainly going to earn him a big payday next summer. The 26-year-old is set to become a restricted free agent in July, but has arbitration rights. There's no doubt that Hronek will get more than the $4.4 million he's currently being paid, if he's able to continue his strong play throughout the rest of the 2023-24 season.
