Lafferty, 28, was acquired by the Canucks on Sunday from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft. There are many who aren't too happy about the Canucks giving up yet another draft pick in a trade, especially for a depth player, but Lafferty could be an important piece to the team's bottom-six this season and plays a style of hockey that will fit in well with Rick Tocchet's system.
The Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania native is in the final year of a two-year contract he signed with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2022 that sees him earn $1.15 million per season. Lafferty is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of this current season and while it's way too early to tell if the Canucks will offer him a contract, if he plays well in his bottom-six role, it's certainly not out of the question to bring him back, but we'll have to wait and see what he brings to the organization.
