LATEST | Canucks have made their play: In a strategical roster position heading into this season
The Vancouver Canucks are in an exciting spot ahead of the 2023-2024 season that begins today. The Canucks have a solid team with great offensive depth that can compete for a playoff spot. There are some fears from fans that the team is not strong enough defensively to ensure a place in the playoffs.
The Canucks are prepared if they do not make the playoffs as they have seven UFA players that can be moved for assets; Myers, Cole, Joshua, Beauvillier, Lafferty, Desmith and Blueger.
Among those players is Sam Lafferty, who was just acquired for a 5th-round pick to Toronto. Lafferty is a solid depth player that helps strengthen the Canucks bottom-six. Lafferty recorded 27 points in 70 games split between Chicago and Toronto. Lafferty can be an essential player in the playoffs for the Canucks and also a trade asset as well.
Anthony Beauvillier is another exciting player coming up this year. Beauvillier is a very talented player. The Canucks acquired him last season in the Horvat trade. Beauvillier recorded 40 points in 82 games, 20 in 33 with the Canucks. Beauvillier is expected to slot into the middle six throughout the season. Beauvillier could recuperate quality value at the trade deadline in the case the Canucks season is not competitive.
The Canucks project to be a solid team this season, but they are prepared for the worst as the season progresses.
