$20 Million Ottawa Senators Star Emerges as Top Offseason Target for the Vancouver Canucks
With just a small handful of game left in the season for the Vancouver Canucks and their playoff's fate already sealed, general manager Patrik Allvin will be forced to make a lot of changes in the offseason, and it seems they have their first target.
The unrestricted free agent (UFA) market for the 2025 NHL offseason is not as stacked as someone in the Vancouver Canucks' position would like it to be, but there are still a bunch of names that make sense for them to target.
After not being able to re-sign
Brock Boeser at the deadline, and the number growing for emerging star
Pius Suter, the Canucks are in the market to find suitable players at low cost as they seem to not want to pay anyone what they are worth.
According to a recent report on the top UFA's, one name has gone more unnoticed than others.
Although his prime years are behind him, Ottawa Senators center Claude Giroux still adds so much value to any team he is on, and the Canucks have a lot of merit to try and acquire him.
At 37-years-old, he still produces offensively at a high level, scoring 15 goals and 32 assists for a respectable 47 PTS in 75 games.
Claude Giroux would be a strong middle six option for the #Canucks that can still provide a lot of versatility.
Not a 2C anymore, but can play all three forward positions, a career 56% face-off wizard, right handed and can run a PP2.
But, where his true value lies, is in the faceoff circle, on defensive side of the puck and his true leadership on and off the ice.
As a former captain of the Philadelphia Flyers and a mentor to now Senators captain
Brady Tkachuk, Claude Giroux can slide right into the middle-6 lineup and act as a versatile player/coach for Hughes and the rest of the young Canucks.
A downside may be the length of his contract being shorter due to his age, but he certainly can be a short-term solution that leaves a long-lasting effect.
