MUCH NEEDED CAP ROOM IN VANCOUVER
The Canucks have to adresse their Defenseman needs and freeing up that much cap space was crucial. The question that stands out at that point; what are they going to spend that money on, perhaps who?
There's been lots of speculation suggesting that the Canucks were waiting for Ethan Bear to fully heal before signing and now their paths may be on the verge of crossing. The Canucks have the cap space and images have been circulating showing Bear on skates. The latest reports have Ethan Bear being ready by mid-December and a reunion might be on its way.
Patrik Allvin had lots of interviews scheduled today, but he make a quick stop with the Canucks' Reporter and revealed that he had been in touch with Ethan Bear from the day he got injured and they kept chatting since:
Bear was with the Canucks for 61 games last year and did extremely well as a two-way Defenseman. He quickly developed into a good partner for Quinn Hughes and the advanced statistics even showed that he was practically just as good as Hronek is by the captain's side. Thomas Drance noted the difference in Hughes' game:
The Canucks need an updgrade on the right side and an opportunity to send Tyler Myers to the 3rd pair where he played his best hockey earlier in the season. While Bear isn't necessarily the best player that may be available, acquiring him means the Canucks won't have to spend an asset and he'll most likely be looking for a short term deal.
