THREE TEAMS DID THEIR DUE DILLIGENCE?
Hockey buzz writer, Eklund, has written an article linking the Montreal Canadiens, New York Islanders and the Boston Bruins to Canucks right winger Conor Garland.
The Canucks will likely have to take on a portion of Garland's salary to make a trade work with any of these teams.
The Montreal Canadiens are an exciting team as they are right up against the ca,p but the injury to forward Kirby Dach will place the player on LTIR, which means there could be a potential fit there. The Habs have an excess of defensemen, in which they could give up a defenseman to the Canucks, who are still searching for one.
The New York Islanders are a more challenging team, as their cap space is also shallow. They will need to move out salary to make a trade with the Canucks. The Islanders have some solid defensive pieces that could work for the Canucks. Right-handed defenseman, Scott Mayfield, is a right-hander that could potentially work for the Canucks. His no-trade clause does pose a threat to the deal. The Canucks would likely have to add more to the trade to make it work.
The Boston Bruins are in the same boat; they are close to the cap ceiling and need to get creative to allow this trade. The Bruins have some strong right-handed defensemen that could go through. Brandon Carlo and Kevin Shattenkirk could be a few options for the Canucks.
Connor Garland has garnered much attention from teams as he is a solid player who can add substantial depth to their forward core. The Canucks will continue to field calls as they look for the right trade.
