LATEST | Extremely bold statement made regarding Thatcher Demko's impact on the Canucks
Thatcher Demko is one of the early frontrunners for the Vezina Trophy this season, but his toughest competition may be within his division.
Two months into the season, Demko is near the top of the league in wins, save percentage and goals-against average and is number one in the league regarding goals saved above expected (GSAx).
Travis Yost says that Demko is certainly an early favourite for the Vezina Trophy, but his division rivals are perhaps his stiffest competition.
He points to strong early season performances from Vegas' Adin Hill and LA's Cam Talbot, and the underrated comeback play of both John Gibson and Jacob Markstrom.
Yost says with Demko leading the pack, the Vezina Trophy looks most likely to land in the Pacific Division.
The odds of this year's Vezina Trophy winner coming from the PAcific are far greater than where they were just two months ago,
Yost writes.
Demko will have to continue his stellar play throughout the season if he hopes to secure his first Vezina Trophy as league's top goalie.
