LATEST | Filip Hronek opens up about his trade to the Vancouver Canucks
Earlier this year, the Vancouver Canucks added 25-year-old defenceman Filip Hronek in a trade with the Detroit Red Wings in what was an unexpected move.
In a recent interview with Czech media outlet ISport, Hronek said he was shocked when he was dealt by the Red Wings.
Note: the following quote was translated from Czech
"He said they changed me," Hronek explained to Czech website isport.blesk.cz. "You don't even know that business is baking. I had absolutely no signs that anything was going on. It all happened very quickly.
"I was surprised, but these things belong to hockey. It happened, it was meant to be. I thought there was no point in thinking about it again."
Hronek only appeared in four games for the Canucks last season, tallying one assist and was a minus-one before being shutdown in late-March due to a shoulder injury.
The Hradec Kralove native is expected to play a big role for the Canucks this season and will form a top-four defensive core with Quinn Hughes, Ian Cole and Carson Soucy. If the Canucks have aspirations of making the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2024, those four defenceman will have to come up big night in, night out throughout the season.
