LATEST | Former Canuck has an incredible start to the season: Scores hat trick in season debut
The 2023-24 Kontinental Hockey League season got underway on Friday and one former Vancouver Canuck had an incredible start to the new campaign.
In their second game of the season on Monday, Nikolay Goldobin and Spartak Moscow defeated Severstal Cherepovets by a score of 6-4, with the former Canucks forward scoring a hat trick.
Back in May, Goldobin was looking to return to North America after spending the previous three seasons in the KHL with CSKA Moscow and Metallurg Magnitogorsk. Ultimately, nothing materialized in North America and Goldobin inked a two-year contract with Spartak Moscow.
The 27-year-old spent parts of four seasons with the Vancouver Canucks between 2017 and 2020 putting up 44 points (18 goals, 26 assists), 24 penalty minutes and was a minus-23 in 114 games.
It'll be interesting to see how things play out over the next two seasons, but if he's able to produce offensively as he's done the last couple of years, there could be a potential return to the NHL in 2025.
