LATEST | Former Canuck Chris Tanev has high praise for Quinn Hughes
Ahead of their meeting on Thursday night, Calgary Flames defenceman and former Canuck Chris Tanev had some high praise for captain Quinn Hughes after his incredible start to the 2023-24 season.
Tanev told reporters that he believes Quinn Hughes is 'probably the best player' in the National Hockey League right now.
"Right now, he is probably the best player in the league," Tanev said.
"If you watch him play right now, he has the puck the whole game," Tanev continued. "He controls a lot of the game. ... He's so smart out there. There are guys who are one step ahead of everyone, but I feel like he is two steps ahead of everyone. And just how he skates, how he uses his edges, he is able to create so much space for himself."
Quinn Hughes' start to the 2023-24 season has him certainly at the forefront of the Norris Trophy conversation after he's recorded 27 points (six goals, 21 assists) in 17 games. His 27 points are not just the best among all NHL defenceman, but has him tied with teammates Elias Pettersson and J.T. Miller for first in the league.
With the Canucks looking to add to their blueline, one name that has come up is Chris Tanev and it would be interesting to see if Allvin is able to reach a deal on a trade with the Flames to bring the Toronto native back to Vancouver. If they're not able to before the deadline in March, it's possible they could circle back on July 1st when he becomes an unrestricted free agent.
