SCHENN SPEAKS WORDS OF WISDOM
Obviously, the Canucks lost a big part of their leadership when Schenn took off, but they also lost a huge contributor to the team's mindset and culture-setter. The former Canucks defenseman was on Sportsnet650 earlier this week. It related to the importance of the culture in, not only cup winners but repeated cup contenders like the Lightning, the Penguins, the Kings or even the BlackHawks:
CANUCKS CLOSING ANOTHER CHAPTER
The Canucks closed another chapter of their retooling when they made Quinn Hughes their newest captain. The Canucks' prodigy will not only have the harsh job to produce on the ice like he's done in the past, but he'll have to lead them and build that new culture that will turn the Canucks into decennial contenders.
As it was pointed out on many occasions, the plan is not to build a playoff contender but to build a core and a team that will constantly be considered a cup contender. Just like the Bolts and the Pens have done in the past, it all starts with team development from within and, obviously, the culture.
Now, will Hughes be enough of a culture-setter to set the Canucks on the right path?
