LATEST | Newly acquired Carson Soucy sends warning to his friends in Seattle
The Vancouver Canucks were very active on the opening day of free agency in July and signed a former Seattle Kraken defenceman, Carson Soucy, to a three-year deal.
While a rivalry hasn't fully formed between the two teams in the Pacific Northwest, Soucy believes that one will build in the coming years.
"Ultimately it's just about getting wins," Soucy said. "They're in our division, so it's going to be a rivalry over these next couple of years, obviously we need those division points, that's all it comes down to."
Geographically, these two are poised to be rivals. The distance between Vancouver and Seattle by car is just a tad under three hours, making it the closest NHL team to the Canucks. Beyond it being a geographical rivalry, the two teams are heading in the right direction, having strong cores and prospect pools and could be on their way to meet in the Stanley Cup Playoffs in the coming years, which would truly make them rivals in the Pacific Division.
This season, the Canucks and Kraken will face each other three times. The first battle will be at Rogers Arena on November 18th, before they play each other six days later on November 24th at Climate Pledge Arena. Their final showdown of the 2023-24 season is set for February 22nd in Seattle.
