LATEST | Nikita Zadorov reveals why he asked for a trade out: Firing at the Flames
The Canucks landed one of the most sought-after trade targets currently on the block. Zadorov had been with 177 games with the Flames before he asked out. He addressed the situation after his first game with his new teammates against his former Flames:
"It feels great. It's an important win for this team. It's a big road game. We played an excellent hockey team on the road, and we stuck with it. All the boys played [hard] today. It's a nice starting point for my career with the Canucks."
THE POINT WHERE THINGS WENT SOUTH IN CALGARY IDENTIFIED?
However, months before, Zadorov had stated that he'd be ready to spend the following years of his career in Calgary. Then, he proceeded to take everyone with a trade request. When asked why he felt a change was needed and if he felt the request was handled properly, he gave a simple reply:
"I haven't got a contract offer,"
"No, I'm happy where I'm at right now,"
The Flames made a coaching change over the summer, and they didn't start things off on the wrong foot. They weren't willing to make him an offer and a commitment, which most likely pissed him off and forced him out of Calgary.
The Canucks have already been in talks with Zadorov's agent. While an offer has not been laid out yet, if things keep on developing, Zadorov may be committing the next few years of his life to Vancouver.
