LATEST | Quinn Hughes shares how important winning this season is
Welcome to October! The National Hockey League's 2023-24 season is set to get underway in just over a week and for the Vancouver Canucks, they're looking to take that step forward and return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time in 2020.
So far this preseason, the Canucks haven't looked all that great and it's caused some frustration. Thankfully for the fanbase, the team returned to winning ways on Saturday night as played their first preseason home game against the Edmonton Oilers.
Canucks captain Quinn Hughes had an incredible performance last night, recording two goals, one assist and eight shots-on-goal. After the game, Hughes expressed how important it is that the team succeeds this season.
"I'm gonna be 24 in October Petey's gonna be 25, Millsy's 30, Demmer's 27, (we're) getting up there.
Not up there, up there but we're not little kids anymore. It's time, they drafted us to do things and (we) gotta do those things." Hughes said.
It's not going to be an easy road in the Pacific Division this season for the Canucks and while they've certainly made some improvements over the summer, they'll be in tough against teams like the Vegas Golden Knights, Edmonton Oilers and Los Angeles Kings.
The Canucks will return to the ice on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. PT to take on the Seattle Kraken in Abbotsford, home of Vancouver's AHL affiliate.
