LATEST | Rick Tocchet singles out Tyler Myers in his post game interview
The Canucks lost a 2-1 lead to the powerful Lightning 4-3. The team's Head Coach, Rick Tocchet, took the stage to talk about his team's performance, and despite the loss, Tocchet seemed happy with the player's overall output. He pointed out certain things that ended up costing the Canucks a lot.
TYLER MYERS SINGLED OUT IN HIS POST-GAME INTERVIEW
Things aren't getting any better for the veteran defenceman Tyler Myers, and even though he scored a goal, some of his defensive plays ended up costing the Canucks very much. Rick Tocchet was asked about the tall defenseman's game, and he didn't hide from the question:
''Well obviously, he made that mistake on the first one. I wish he stayed on his feet; if he stays on his stay on his feet, he probably gets the glass. He duplicates mistakes. I know he threw the puck away; that's the first mistake. He's gonna have to bounce back; we've got some people hurt, so we need him to dial in for us''
TWO SEQUENCES WHERE MYERS' PLAY DIRECTLY LEAD TO A GOAL
Over the last two games, Tyler Myers has often been criticized, but today's game showed two sequences where his play choices directly led to Lightning's goals.
In a clearing attempt, Myers threw the puck right onto the Lightning player's tape, and even though Thatcher Demko made unbelievable saves to shut the scoring chance down, after three attempts, Tampa Bay succeeded. Myers gave his comments on the play:
«I was trying to clear it,» says Tyler Myers of his failed clearing attempt that led to the opening goal. «I think I had more time than I thought
«I don't like that play, I don't know how I could like it It's a play, I'd like back.»
«Petey created a battle in the corner,» said Myers of how he saw TB's 2nd PP goal. «We got tangled up and they popped out of the corner with it.»
Q: «Right read, bad outcome?»
«I think so. I just have to try to push them into the pile, not Petey.»
The Canucks are currently struggling on their defensive right side, and Myers was granted under 16 min of ice time. They'll need something to happen because the way Demko has played through these two road games, the Canucks should've come out ahead.
After winning their first two outings, the Canucks have now lost a second straight, bringing them to a 0.500 winning percentage; they'll be looking to renew with victory on Saturday when they play Oliver Ekman-Larsson and the Panthers in Florida
