Since the season opened last week, Conor Garland's name has been on the news. The fact that his agent was granted permission to talk to other teams and the known fact that he's been on that trade block for over a year makes it evident that he's the next player out.

THE CAPITALS HAD PLACED THEIR OFFER?

Patrik Allvin has known he'd be willing to retain up to 30% of Garland's $4.95M cap hit ($1.45M), but it's now clear he won't be going over that. The Capitals have been rumoured to be in on this, but the offer wasn't to the Canucks' pleasing, and they ultimately turned it down.

Rick Dhaliwal hinted that the Capitals were interested, but he also added that they asked for the Canucks to retain $1.9M and sent a defenceman with a similar contract:

'Dhaliwal didn't say the name or team but reported that a couple wanted Canucks to retain 1.9 mills.

TVR has a three-mill cap hit and expires simultaneously with Garland.

Retaining 1.9 for Garland would make him a three-mill cap hit.

TVR has the same agent as Garland 👀

Trevor Van Riemsdyk, a 32-year-old right-handed Defenseman, could potentially fill a need in Vancouver. However, with the team's latest addition, Mark Friedman, it wouldn't make much sense to add another d-man of that type, especially since he's under contract for the next three seasons, just like Garland.

We don't know whether or not there was to that offer, but it was brilliant to turn it down. Now that the Canucks have opened up to the possibility of retaining a portion of Garland's cap hit, there's been plenty of interest, and a better offer will almost certainly turn up.
