'Anxious To Get Going': Rick Tocchet & Conor Garland Open Up On J.T. Millers Leave of Absence from Canucks

With J.T. Miller nearing closer to his return to the Vancouver Canucks, head coach Rick Tocchet and forward Conor Garland comment on Miller's leave of absence from the team.

It came as a shock to many when J.T. Miller announced he was taking a leave of absence from the Vancouver Canucks for personal reasons.

Missing 9 games, and being out since mid-November, today was a major step forward for Miller as he partook in his first morning game-day skate with the Vancouver Canucks.

It marked the official start to when the Canucks can expect to have him back fully especially with the announcement of him partaking in full practice tomorrow.

«I don't know about Thursday, but he's going to practise with the full team tomorrow,» said Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet. «We'll get him with a line and get him cooking and go from there. I'll talk to him and see how he feels, but he's been skating and is anxious to get going on his terms.» - Rick Tocchet

After Miller took the ice this morning, head coach Rick Tocchet spoke to the media about his return, and what their relationship was like during his mental and physical reset.

Forward Conor Garland doubled down on what Tocchet told the media, saying how nice it is to have Miller back with the team.

More Importantly, with all the speculation surrounding Miller, Garland took the time to step up to defend his team mate on his decsion to take time for himself. He disclosed that athletes are people first, that deal with the exact same issues and everyone else.

«People look at what we make, but we've got the same worries everybody else does. I've gone through stuff, and people have gone through stuff on our team that doesn't become public. This became public. J.T.'s got a great support system here."
