As the Vancouver Canucks cling to their playoff lives in a nail-biting win against the New Jersey Devils on Monday, a new development could have the Canucks and New York rangers combining for a blockbuster trade in the offseason.
Although playing some of his best hockey this season, he will be out a minimum of 4 games moving forward, and now, a new trade proposal has his name all over it.
Vancouver Canucks exploring to trade Elias Pettersson in the offseason to the New York Rangers?
In what could be one of the ridiculous but hilarious trades to ever happen could potential come to fruition if the Canucks decide to reunite Pettersson and
J.T. Miller in the big apple after their well publicized rift.
If GM Chris Drury is thinking this is what the Breadman is worth, then why couldn't the Canucks jump in on this action.
If this deal were to transpire the Rangers would acquire 23-year-old right winger Jack Quinn, 23 year old right winger JJ Peterka and buffalo's 2025 first round draft pick.
If the Canucks were to follow the same lines as the trade proposal above represented by Rangers Insider, the the Canucks would have all the pieces to be in the same ballpark.
The Canucks have a slew of young players the exceed, if not match the talent and expectations of both Jack Quinn and JJ Paterka.
To Vancouver Canucks:
-
Artemi Panarin ($5 million retained by the Rangers)
- Arthur Kaliyev
- 2025 Fifth-Round Pick (Minnesota's)
- Elias Pettersson (26-year-old elite center)
- Nils Höglander (23-year-old winger)
- Vancouver's 2025 2nd-Round Pick
Now, in reality, there is no chance that the Rangers would ever take the chance of reuniting Miller and Pettersson after the drama that took place this season in Vancouver.
If not, the Canucks would have to change their second-round offer to a first rounder and add youngster Jonathan Lekkerimaki.
With the Rangers having an up and down season, according to Reporter Peter Baugh, he explained where the Rangers stand and who would likely be on their way out of the organization.
"if the Rangers are going to make substantial changes to their roster, they will need to move players out,» Baugh added. «
Chris Kreider is the most obvious candidate, given that Chris Drury already showed a willingness to entertain offers in November, when he sent a message to the other 31 general managers saying he'd listen on Kreider and then-captain
Jacob Trouba. Moving Kreider's $6.5 million cap hit might not be easy given his trade protection and the disappointing season he's had."
Patrik Allvin and the Canucks made no moves this trade deadline, and you can place a bet that if they miss the playoffs, there will be many drastic changes made in the offseason, whether it is with the Rangers or not.
