Vancouver Canucks forward Elias Pettersson is back on the ice preparing for the 2024-25 season, which is going to be a big one for him.

The second half of the 2023-24 season was a tough one for Vancouver Canucks forward Elias Pettersson and he didn't perform as anyone expected during the team's run in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Pettersson said after the playoffs were over that he had been dealing with an injury to his knee and that could be a reason for the lack of production down the stretch and in the first and second round against Nashville and Edmonton, respectively.

With the 2023-24 season in the rearview mirror, Elias Pettersson is looking ahead to the new campaign and with his contract extension kicking in, there's plenty of pressure on him to produce offensively and return to being a 100-point player.

The Canucks' training camp is set to get underway on September 19th, but Elias Pettersson is getting a jump on his preparation and was recently seen on the ice with his former team in Sweden, Timra IK, who he spent four seasons with in their youth and senior men's system.

While Pettersson was still over a point-per-game player last season, registering 89 in 82 games, the Sundsvall native has a new contract, one that'll see him earn $11.6 million USD for the next eight years. With having one of the highest salaries in the National Hockey League, there's going to be a lot of pressure and expectation that comes with that.

There's no doubt that Pettersson is one of the most talented forwards in the entire NHL, which is why he earned that salary from the Vancouver Canucks, but this year, he'll need to have another 100 or more point campaign to prove that he's worthy of that much money.

It's going to be interesting to see who is put on a line with Elias Pettersson to start the 2024-25 season, but it could be a two new additions to the roster - Jake DeBrusk and Daniel Sprong, both of whom can help drive offense after registering 19 and 18 goals, respectively, last year.
