It was a difficult 2023-24 season for Vancouver Canucks defenceman Guillaume Brisebois. Late in training camp last fall, Brisebois took a hit to the head, which caused him to miss the entire season, aside from eight AHL games towards the end of the year.
His concussion-like symptoms returned, but is ready to get back on the ice and compete in training camp for a spot on the opening night roster, however it won't be easy given the additions Patrik Allvin made this summer.
Brisebois spoke to Patrick Johnston of The Province on Friday after an informal skate with other members of the Canucks and said that he's feeling good and had a good summer, but it took him a while to get back to normal.
The 27-year-old added that he hasn't had any issues during sessions on the ice this week and feels lucky to be able to wake up every day and come to the rink to play the game he loves.
Brisebois, a native of Longueuil, Quebec, was drafted in the third round by the Vancouver Canucks back in 2015 and has appeared in a total of 27 games with the team since then, registering three points (one goal, two assists), six penalty minutes and is a minus-seven.
It's great to see that Guillaume Brisebois is feeling better after last season's injury and it's going to be interesting to see how he'll do in game action during the preseason. Barring a standout performance in training camp, Brisebois is likely Abbotsford-bound to start the 2024-25 campaign, but he could find his way up to Vancouver at some point during the season.
