Hockey Canada held an intra-squad scrimmage on Tuesday in Windsor, Ontario as part of the ongoing World Junior Summer Showcase and a pair of Vancouver Canucks prospects found themselves on the scoresheet.
Defenceman Sawyer Mynio and Team Red took on 2024 sixth round pick Anthony Romani and Team White. It was a close game between the two sides, as Hockey Canada management looked on and kept tabs on who they'll likely invite to camp in early December ahead of the 2025 World Juniors, which are set to be held in Ottawa.
Sawyer Mynio, who the Vancouver Canucks selected in the third round in 2023, picked up a goal and an assist in the contest, as Team Red walked away with a 4-3 win over Team White.
As for Anthony Romani, he scored for Team White in a losing effort, but was able to prove why he finished as the leading goal scorer in the Ontario Hockey League last season. Romani had 58 goals and 111 points in 68 games for the OHL's North Bay Battalion last season and could be a key piece to Canada's offence at the World Juniors later this year.
The World Junior Summer Showcase continues on Wednesday as Canada takes on Sweden at WFCU Centre, home of the OHL's Windsor Spitfires. Canada will then make the short trip south of the border to Plymouth, Michigan for their final two games of the World Junior Summer Showcase as they face Finland on Friday and the United States on Saturday.
