Former Canucks captain Mark Messier lands new broadcasting gig in Canada
Former Vancouver Canucks captain Mark Messier has landed a new broadcasting gig in Canada.
Mark Messier has done quite well for himself off the ice, working in an analyst role for EPSN's NHL broadcasts in the United States. But soon enough, fans north of the border are going to see the Hall of Famer on their screens, with a subscription to Amazon Prime.
On Monday, it was announced that Mark Messier would be joining the national broadcasts on Monday night on Amazon Prime Video, which begins on October 14th with the Montreal Canadiens hosting Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Along with Mark Messier, the crew for Monday Night Hockey on Amazon Prime includes Adnan Virk and Andy Petrillo as hosts, with John Forslund on play-by-play duties. Jody Shelley, Thomas Hickey, Blake Bolden and Shane Hnidy are all involved as analysts.
"Prime Monday Night Hockey will stream all national regular season Monday night NHL games in English for the 2024-25 NHL season in Canada, at no extra cost to Prime members. Prime Monday Night Hockey will feature an all-star cast lead by veteran play-by-play announcer John Forslund, alongside analysts Jody Shelley, Thomas Hickey, and Shane Hnidy. Anchoring the Prime Monday Night sports desk all from on-site will be Adnan Virk, Andi Petrillo, analyst Blake Bolden, and a mix of local guests throughout the season. Hockey Hall of Famer Mark Messier will be a contributor throughout the season both on the desk and with vignettes." The NHL said. Back in the spring, Amazon and Rogers Communications agreed to a deal that will Monday Night Hockey broadcasts in Canada shift from Sportsnet to Amazon Prime Video starting this season. The deal is for two years, which covers the final couple years of Rogers' broadcasting deal with the National Hockey League.
For Vancouver Canucks fans, they'll need a subscription to Amazon Prime to watch four games this season. Their first appearance on Amazon Prime is set for December 23rd as they host the San Jose Sharks at Rogers Arena. January 3rd @ Montreal, January 27th @ St. Louis and March 24th @ New Jersey are the other three games.
