Former Vancouver Canucks head coach Bruce Boudreau knows first-hand what it's like to be behind the bench with J.T. Miller on his team and gave his thoughts on the trade recently.
Bruce Boudreau shares his thoughts on the J.T. Miller trade
Several analysts and former NHLers have weighed in on the J.T. Miller trade in recent days, but now someone who has been in that locker room, Bruce Boudreau, has taken the time to share his thoughts.
Boudreau was a guest on SportsCentre with Jay Onrait this week where he said over the long haul, he believes this trade will make the Vancouver Canucks a better team without the distraction of the rumored rift.
"Potentially over the long haul? Yes, I think they can. I think they can be better. I also think they can be better because obviously, the room wasn't working. They weren't playing for each other like you're supposed to be playing." Boudreau said.
Miller has had a great start to his second stint as a member of the New York Rangers organization, registering two goals and two assists in two games over the weekend and Bruce Boudreau believes he's a great player when he wants to be and can no doubt be a 100-point guy in the NHL.
"Miller is one great hockey player when he wants to play, and he's proven it this weekend in New York even though they split the games, he got two goals the first game two assists today. I mean, he's he's a 100 point player all the way." Boudreau said.
From the Vancouver Canucks' point of view and what they've got in return for J.T. Miller, Patrik Allvin did the best he could given the situation, with their former player having a full no-movement clause.
Filip Chytil is a nice piece for the Vancouver Canucks and will play a second line role down the stretch here and could see some time on the second powerplay unit as well.
As for Victor Mancini, who has yet to play with either Vancouver or Abbotsford, he becomes another solid young defensive option for the organization joining Elias Pettersson, Tom Willander and
Sawyer Mynio.
Only time will tell whether the Vancouver Canucks or New York Rangers won this trade, but it was a deal that needed to get done given the circumstances and hopefully, Rick Tocchet's group can push forward without Miller and get back to the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
