Former NHLer Says Vancouver Canucks Will Lose a J.T. Miller Trade No Matter What
A former NHLer doesn't believe the Vancouver Canucks have a chance at coming out on top in a trade involving star forward J.T. Miller.
Trade talks continue this week regarding Vancouver Canucks forward J.T. Miller and it's probably a shock to some people in the organization that he's still with the club.
Over the weekend, talks began heating up with the New York Rangers to the point where Miller was going to sit out Saturday's game against Edmonton, but the deal fell through at the last minute.
Trying to teams interested in J.T. Miller has been fairly easy for the Vancouver Canucks, but what isn't easy is which clubs the star forward is willing to waive his no-movement clause for.
Because of this, combined with his contract that comes with a $8 million cap hit for the next five seasons following 2024-25, it's going to be tough for the Vancouver Canucks to find a package that they'll like in return for J.T. Miller.
Former NHLer doesn't believe Vancouver Canucks can win a J.T. Miller trade
On Wednesday's edition of the Missin Curfew podcast, former NHLers Shane O'Brien, Scottie Upshall and Brad Richardson discussed the rumors coming out of Vancouver regarding J.T. Miller.
"If they trade J.T. Miller, it's a crying shame. Last year we were in the building and they were chanting his name, they were chanting his name this year when he wasn't playing well. I guess I'm asking you boys, how did we get here? How did this happen? I'm sure Rick Tocchet, Footy [Adam Foote] and the boys are asking themselves the same thing and maybe even J.T., like how did we get here Updogg?" O'Brien said.
Brad Richardson, who spent parts of three seasons in Vancouver, said that he doesn't Canucks would be able to win in a trade involving J.T. Miller.
"Something's going to happen, it has to now. You know, especially with the media, we played there, the media gets ahold of this thing, it's every day, every day, every day. It won't stop until something happens you know what I mean?" Richardson said.
He went on to add, "You're right when saying this, no matter what they do here, the Canucks are going to lose this trade.
They're not going to give you what you want. They're not going to give you Svechnikov if you go to Carolina, they're not going to give you, you know, any of these young players that they covet. You're going to have to pick, I'm just looking at Carolina because they're a rumored team, but they've got that Blake kid, Jackson Blake. Young 21-year-old that could pop maybe and become a 30-goal scorer." It's not going to be easy for Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin to find a trade that he likes, but with the frustration around the club right now, a deal involving J.T. Miller seems inevitable before the deadline on March 7th.
