Important announcement regarding Canucks' prospect Hugo Gabrielson
A Vancouver Canucks prospect has found a new home overseas for the 2024-25 season.
After spending the last three seasons with Vasterviks IK in HockeyAllsvenskan, Vancouver Canucks prospect Hugo Gabrielson has decided to change teams ahead of the 2024-25 campaign, but will be remaining in the second tier of Swedish hockey.
On Wednesday, the Nybro Vikings announced that they've agreed to terms on a one-year contract with Hugo Gabrielson for the 2024-25 season.

"Hugo Gabrielson ready for Nybro Vikings!
The 21-year-old defender has signed an agreement over the 2024/25 season." The Vikings said in a social media post on Wednesday morning.
Gabrielson says he's excited to be joining a really good organization in Nybro and added that expectations are very high this season for both himself and the Vikings.
"It feels really fun and exciting. I got a really good picture of the organization, everything from the hockey to what is around. It feels like positive winds are blowing in Nybro Vikings and I want to be on that train."
He added, "Expectations for the season are high both for myself and the team. For the team, it is important to build on last year and build on what was good. For my own part, it is to continue to accelerate my hockey and contribute to the team winning hockey matches."
Nybro's sports director Mikael Aaro commented on the signing on Wednesday, saying that Gabrielson has good skating, hockey sense/IQ and plays well at both ends of the ice. Aaro believes Gabrielson can play be a two-way defenceman for his team with plenty of offensive upside to his game.
"Hugo has good skating, a good game sense and can play in both ends of the ice making him a good two-way defender with offensive upside. He will come to a good environment and will be able to accelerate his ice hockey here in Nybro Vikings." Aaro said.
Gabrielson, 21, was selected in the sixth round, 169th overall, by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. In 47 games with Vasterviks IK, the Gothenburg, Sweden native had 15 points (five goals, ten assists), ten penalty minutes and was a minus-13.
