LATEST | Concerning comment regarding Nikita Zadorov and his future in Vancouver: Now out of the Canucks' price range
The Vancouver Canucks will be quite busy at the conclusion of the 2023-24 campaign, as they have several key players they would like to get under contract for next season.
Among those players that are set to become free agents this summer is Russian defenceman Nikita Zadorov, who will be a UFA on Canada Day.
It's unclear what the cost to re-sign Nikita Zadorov may be, but it could be pricey, especially given his play of late and the leadership he's brought to the lineup.
During Friday's edition of the 32 Thoughts podcast, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman shared some news that might not sit well with fans of the Vancouver Canucks. Friedman said that Zadorov may get priced out of Vancouver this summer and that the cost to re-sign him may be too much for the Canucks.
"I think he might get priced out of there, we'll see what happens with that, I think that just might be too high a number for them" Friedman said.
Zadorov, 28, was acquired by the Canucks in late-November from the Calgary Flames in exchange for a fifth-round round pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft and a third-round pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft. In 40 games with Vancouver, the Moscow native has ten points (three goals, seven assists), 73 penalty minutes and is a plus-nine.
