The Vancouver Canucks have made some pretty big additions to their roster dating back to last summer and even during the season thus far, but when you have the opportunity to get a three-time Stanley Cup champion without giving up any assets, it's always a bonus. And that just may happen in the coming weeks.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, on Thursday morning, Rick Dhaliwal of 'Donne & Dhali' reported that the Vancouver Canucks are still "poking around" on free agent forward Phil Kessel.

"For those asking, the #Canucks are still poking around UFA Phil Kessel.

I will have an update on Kessel on the show." Dhaliwal said.

Kessel, 36, is coming off his third Stanley Cup championship, which he won last season while with the Vegas Golden Knights. In 82 games, Kessel put up 36 points (14 goals, 22 assists), 30 penalty minutes and was a minus-seven. He also added two assists in four games during the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

While away at the NHL All-Star Weekend in Toronto, Vancouver Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet spoke about Phil Kessel, who he coached while with the Pittsburgh Penguins and Arizona Coyotes.

"There's value in Phil, I think he can still play, 100 per cent." Tocchet said.

There's plenty of history between members of the Canucks front office, Tocchet and Phil Kessel, so it seems like it could potentially be a perfect fit. Even if Kessel is playing limited minutes and not in the lineup every night, as he reportedly said he's willing to do to play in the NHL this season.
