LATEST | Thatcher Demko snubs Jeremy Swayman: The Canucks goaltender makes his apology
The Vancouver Canucks are set to play their second game of their five-game road trip as they stop in Boston to take on the Bruins.
Thursday's game will be a battle between two the best goaltenders in the National Hockey League and potentially future teammate with the United States at the 2025 4 Nations Face-off and 2026 Winter Olympics - Thatcher Demko and Jeremy Swayman.
Over the weekend, Demko and Swayman were participating at the All-Star Game in Toronto and on Friday night, ahead of the Skills Competition, the Canucks netminder snubbed Swayman, who was attempting to give him a hug, recreating his post-game celebration in Boston with Linus Ullmark. Every other goaltender at All-Star Weekend gave Swayman a hug, except Demko, who walked right by him.
On Thursday morning, Swayman told reporters that Thatcher Demko apoligized for the snub and offered him a hug today.
"#NHLBruins goalie Jeremy Swayman just told reporters that #Canucks goalie Thatcher Demko apologized for the hug slight at the #NHLAllStar game and offered him a hug this morning." Jimmy Murphy of Boston Hockey Now said.
"[Thatcher Demko] came up to me the next day and was like, 'Sway, I'm so sorry about that.' He just didn't see I guess. I was laughing, it was totally cool. There's still love. He's a good guy. We had a good chat." Swayman said.
It's nice to see that Demko apologized for the snub and now the two can put it on the back burner and focus on their respective games ahead and maybe hockey fans will see them hug on the ice as teammates for the United States in the coming years.
Puck drop for tonight's game between the Vancouver Canucks and Boston Bruins is set for 4 p.m. PT/7 p.m. ET on Sportsnet nationally across Canada.
