NHL.com issues bold statement on the outcome of the Vancouver Canucks season
An NHL.com reporter believes that the Vancouver Canucks will be best team in Canada by end of the 2024-25 season.
The 2024-25 season may have only begun a few weeks ago, but it's never too early to look to the future and try to predict where certain teams will land in the standings when all is said and done.
In a recent article on NHL.com, their writers took a look at who they believe will be the best Canadian team in the standings when the regular season wraps up on Thursday, April 17th.
One reporter, Tracey Myers, believes that it'll be Rick Tocchet's Vancouver Canucks who will be the best Canadian team at the end of the season, but there a lot of factors at play here. Myers says that while there's uncertainty with Thatcher Demko, the team will be strong until he's able to return.
"Yes, I know, the Canucks are missing an incredibly huge piece of the puzzle right now in goalie Thatcher Demko, who's out indefinitely with a lower-body injury, but I like their makeup and believe they'll stay strong until the return of who was the runner-up to the 2024 Vezina Trophy. They still have Jack Adams Award-winning coach Rick Tocchet, Norris Trophy-winning defenseman Quinn Hughes and a great cast around them. And so far, goalie Kevin Lankinen has been great. He signed with the Canucks on Sept. 21, after two seasons as a backup to Juuse Saros with the Nashville Predators. He's a great story. This season the Canucks will be one again, too." Myers said. There's still a long road ahead for the Vancouver Canucks, with other Canadian teams that'll come between them and being the best team in the country. The Winnipeg Jets have started the season 8-0-0, while the Edmonton Oilers and Toronto Maple Leafs are always sure bets to finish high up in their respective divisions. This season so far, you can't count out the Calgary Flames either, who are currently 5-2-1 - good enough for third in the Pacific Division.
While teams may stand in their way, the Vancouver Canucks have a very deep squad up front and on the blue line and if Thatcher Demko is able to return at some point, it wouldn't shock anyone to see the team go even further in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
