While congratulations poured in from the NHL community and the province of British Columbia, Bains' goal also garnered attention from Parliament Hill as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau went out of his way to congratulate the Canucks' youngster.
Bains scored his first midway through the second period of a game the Canucks ultimately squeaked out over the Penguins, 4-3.
He drove the net hard and was rewarded with his first by cleaning up the rebound.
The 23 year old is no stranger to scoring, having put up 55 points in 59 games in Abbotsford last season, but the first NHL marker will be a huge milestone for him.
After the game Bains said the whole experience was a whirlwind, and his teammates were thrilled to see him rewarded.
Bains signed with the Canucks as a free agent in 2022 after going undrafted, and he's worked his way into being one of the organization's top young players.
Despite his goal, the Canucks actually sent the 23 year old to the minors on Sunday afternoon - however it may just be a paper transaction in order to work the salary cap to their advantage.
